Artistic Street Lighting
City of Vancouver, February 2010
Pierre Poussin and I have been commissioned to create decorative street
lighting to enhance the streets of Vancouver during the 2010 Winter
Olympic Games. The intention is to brighten the nights, add to the excitement
of the games and make the City visually remarkable. Mounted to
lampposts and utilizing the latest LED technology, the street lighting schemes
will not only be beautiful, but also provide a sense of direction and place
for visitors.
As the weather is so important to the Games, I designed a piece entitled Rain Barrel. These chandelier-like fixtures will be mounted to the tops of lamppost.
Each of the eleven blue strands features white LEDs that chase downward to emulate rain or snow.

I have been the artist member of the
project team for the OC Transpo Bus Depot and Dispatch Building since the fall
of 2007. My role has been to
artistically enhance a number of different sites and resources in the facility,
including: bike racks, windows and walkways.
